Fayose @ it again

Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has donated N1 million to St. Louis Grammar School, Ikere-Ekiti, for the improvement of the various self-help projects embarked upon by the principal of the school, Mrs Rhoda Ojo.

Petitioners were said to have reported Mrs Ojo to the governor and had allegedly accused her of mismanaging the funds raised by the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school for sundry development.

When Governor Fayose, however, arrived at the school on an impromptu visit, he found that the principal had used the money judiciously, having built a borehole with overhead tanks; a clinic and a dispensary; and had also renovated various buildings in the school.

Against the expectation of the petitioners, Governor Fayose, who was obviously impressed by the school principal’s action, announced her promotion and N1 million donation for further renovation works and upkeep of the school, adding that the state government would build 200 metres road in the school.

In reaction, the management of St Louis Grammar School showered encomiums on Governor Fayose for the donation of N1 million and other support items towards the actualisation of various self-help projects embarked upon by the school.

In a statement signed by the principal, Mrs Ojo; national president of St Louis Old Students Association, Mrs Yinka Faloye; chairman of the School-Based Management Committee, Dr Oyebanji Olajuyin; chairman of PTA, Mr Abayomi Akinloye and Chief Kayode Omotayo, they thanked the governor and urged him “to continue to fast-track the development of the education sector to ensure that the lost glory of the state is restored.”

The projects going on in the school in conjunction with the PTA and St Louis Old Students Association (SLOSA) and School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) also include the construction of 2,000-seater school chapel and perimeter fencing.

They said the governor’s gesture would motivate private-sector’s intervention in the education sector and expressed the hope that the initiative, which it noted had boosted the level of infrastructure in the school, would be emulated by other public institutions in the state “as the task of developing the education sector cannot be left in the hand of the government alone.”

They said: “We are delighted to associate with the vision of the governor in the education sector. Currently, stakeholders in this school have erected CCTV cameras in all the nooks and crannies of the school; dug a borehole and built a 2000-seater chapel among others. These are the developmental initiatives that interest the governor. He and his deputy were here at different times to assess these facilities and motivate us. We are lucky to have Mr Ayodele Fayose as our governor. We are of the opinion that his leadership will take this state to a greater height.”

The statement which also commended the governor on the promise to construct 200 metres of road within the school premises noted that the current partnership between the school management and government would soon become a reference point for Public Private Partnership (P.P.P) in the Nigeria education sector.

“If 200 metres of roads is put in place here, the beauty of this school will actually become unquantifiable. We think Mr Governor is doing these to serve as a motivation for other schools around that if they take the step we took government would always be there to complement whatever they sow in form of development’, it further stated.

While calling on prominent indigenes of the state to join hands with the governor in developing the state,it expressed hope that the lost glory of the state in the sector would be restored through the present level of commitments being shown by Mr. Ayodele Fayose-led administration.
