H.E. Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi is a renowned feminist. With an academic background in History, Cultural Anthropology and Gender studies, she has acquired professional experience as a social change philanthropist, social entrepreneur, journalist, facilitator, trainer, and organizational development specialist. Her Excellency is also one of founders of the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF). Prior to her work with AWDF, H.E. was the Director of Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA), coordinating programs for the development of women’s leadership skills and supports women’s grassroots organizations.
As director of AMwA she initiated the African Women’s Leadership Institute, an amazingly powerful leadership-training program for women’s groups in Africa and Europe. H.E Bisi is currently the founder of the Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF). In 2011, Women Deliver named H.E Bisi one of 100 most inspiring people delivering for women and girls. Similarly, in 2011, H.E. sponsored the Gender Based Violence Prohibition Bill, which was passed into law. With the passage of the bill, Ekiti becomes the first state in Nigeria to have such a law.

ADEYEYE COUNSELS INEC ON TRANSPARENCY


The ministerial nominee from Ekiti State, Adedayo Adeyeye, has urged the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Atahiru Jega, to monitor closely the electoral officers assigned with the responsibility of conducting the June 21 governorship election in the state, saying, “there are insinuations that most of the electoral officers posted by INEC to Ekiti have been compromised by the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

IGP REPLACES EKITI CP, DEPLOYS AIG, FIVE OTHER CPS


The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, has deployed an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Bala M Nasarawa, to supervise security arrangements in the Ekiti governorship election.

He has, however, stepped down the Ekiti police commissioner and replaces him with CP Ikechukwu Aduba, who will function as CP in charge of Ekiti State for the period of the election.

This is part of measures aimed at ensuring proper coordination of security operations and also to ensure that the election is hitch-free devoid of electoral fraud.

BAMIDELE ENDS CAMPAIGN WITH ROAD SHOW


The House of Representatives member and Labour Party (LP)’s governorship candidate in Saturday’s election, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has rounded off his campaign activities with a road show around the state capital, Ado Ekiti with an assurance to emerge as a winner.

Bamidele, who toured all major streets in the state capital in a long motorcade, also used the opportunity to debunk rumour about his purported withdrawal from the race.



Bamidele, who first addressed his teeming supporters at his Iyin-Ekiti country home, also reassured residents of Ado Ekiti that he is the best candidate in the race.

NUJ, NBA CHARGE CONTESTANTS TO PLAY BY THE RULE


Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ ) have urged political actors in the June 21 ,2014 to walk their talks before, during and after the poll .

The two bodies have set up a Peace initiative to mediate among political parties participating in the June 21 Governorship election in Ekiti State.

EKITI FARMERS GET N60 MILLION LOAN

The Ekiti State Government disbursed yesterday N60 million loans to 48 farmers’ cooperative societies.

EKITI APPROVES N9.3B FOR IKERE-ONDO ROAD


The Ekiti State government has approved N9.3 billion for the dualisation of the Ikere-Ondo State Boundary road.

Briefing reporters yesterday on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation Tayo Ekundayo said the contract was awarded to Messrs China Railway No 3 Engineering Company. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months.

Ekundayo said the government would pay 15 per cent mobilisation fee to the contractor, who will fund the remaining 85 per cent.

He said the contractor is on site, adding that the project would ease movement on the Ado-Ikere-Akure road when completed.

Ekundayo said he hoped Ondo State would do its portion of the road without delay.

E-ELEVEN FIGHTING TO RETAIN BUSINESS INTEREST – GROUP


The Ekiti State Development Union (ESDU) has described a socio-political group in the state, E-Eleven, as a group a selfish individuals, who are only interested in protecting their personal interests.

The ESDU said “the E-Eleven’s opposition to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr. Ayodele Fayose was as a result of their desperation to continue with their management of the state-owned Fountain Hotel without paying the government.”

The group in a release issued in Ado-Ekiti today, by the ESDU and signed by its Chairman, Pastor Yemi Olayinka and Secretary, Mr. Foluso Oguntoyinbo, said “reasonable Ekiti indigenes don’t take E-Eleven serious because the group cannot point to anything that it contributed to the development of the state since inception.”

The ESDU which urged Ekiti people to ignore the E-Eleven and its “anti-Ekiti development” antics added that “in the last 12 years, the people in E-Eleven have done nothing other than evil to Ekiti and its people.

“They were the ones who waged war against Otunba Niyi Adebayo when he was governor; they waged war against Fayose when he refused to hand over the State treasury to them.
