EKITI GETS BIGGEST DUCK FARM IN WEST AFRICA

Ekiti State is set to be home to West Africa’s biggest duck farm.

In a statement made available to The Nation, Fountain Ducks Farms Limited will occupy over 70 hectares of land, employ 300 direct workers and produce about 16, 000 ducklings per day.

The initiator of the project and Managing Director of the farm, Rev. Gabriel Ayorinde, said, “Fountain Duck Farms will be a fully integrated agribusiness which will manufacture required feed in-house, install its own hatchery, with capacity to make poultry farms from neighbouring states benefit from its services.”

The investors, who recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Fountain Holdings Limited, are currently inspecting sites to determine a choice location for the duck farm.

Ayorinde also said the ducks that will be imported from the United States of America and Europe are choice species identified as the best quality for eggs and meat production which will improve protein intake of Ekiti people and others.

According to Ayorinde, duck meat also has high export value and potential to generate foreign exchange thereby boosting the revenue of the state and Nigeria.

CANDIDATES BOYCOTT DIALOGUE WITH WOMEN

All the 18 candidates in the Ekiti State governorship election yesterday shunned a women’s dialogue organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The forum, held in conjunction with the Women Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON) and supported by the United Nations Development Programme’s Governance for Development Project (DGD), was attended by women from different professional bodies, parties and trade groups.

EKITI SEALS OFF CHINESE FIRM OVER N71M TAX DEFAULT

The Ekiti State Government yesterday sealed off the construction site of a Chinese firm at Ado-Ekiti, over an alleged N71.761m tax default.

The Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Agency, Mr. Isola Akingbade, who led an enforcement team to the site, explained that the action was consequent upon the failure of Hongye Ampic Concept Ltd to comply with the Personal Income Tax Act, PITA, of 2006.

Akingbade stressed that the agency followed due process, adding that the action was carried out after a court order was duly obtained.

According to him, several earlier efforts were made to ensure payment of the tax due after it was discovered through a tax audit that the company was heavily indebted to the state government.

The IRS boss, who condemned the nonchalant attitude of many foreign contractors to payment of taxes, said that such unwholesome position was not acceptable in their home countries and cautioned that government would no longer tolerate tax evasion.

Akingbade wondered why a company whose fleet of heavy duty trucks enormously contributed to the incessant damage of roads constructed with taxpayers’ money in the state, would evade tax.

He warned that the site would not be reopened until the company paid the outstanding tax debt and appealed to individuals and corporate organisations affected by the development to prevail on the tax defaulters to obey the laws of the land.

The chairman praised tax payers and emphasised the need for defaulters to repent in order to enable government have funds to fulfill its obligation to the people and develop the society.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has flagged off the construction of Ikere- Ondo state boundary dualisation project aimed at ameliorating the plight of commuters who ply Ado- Akure road.

The governor said while inaugurating the dualisation of the federal road, which is in a deplorable condition, was in demonstration of the commitment of his administration to infrastructure development as enshrined in the eightpoint agenda.

Fayemi, who said the project was in fulfillment of his promise to the people, said his government desired to dualise all the major roads leading to the state, even as the engineering designs of Ado-Ijan and Ado-Iyin-Igede roads had been prepared.

AWO-EKITI

The original inhabitants of Awo were believed to have come from Ifè Oòdáyé. They were part of the waves of Yorùbá who migrated from Ile-Ife to found settlements in the present South-Western Nigeria. The foundation of Awo in its present site was as a result of amalgamation of some villages which agreed to cooperate for defensive reasons, as a result of common threats from stronger – chiefdoms. This was about 1350 A.D.

The community which later became Awo had its nucleus in a small settlement at Ijoru. The small settlement in later time became part of Oke-Uba Quarter under Osukoti of Awo Ekiti. At Ijoru was a market called Olujoda which was held every nine other days by such nearby settlements at Uju and Ile-Ona. The great importance of the market of Odo settlement who engaged Ijoru, Uju, Ile-Ona and other surrounding hamlets in warfare. The incessant attacks from Odo people forced the settlements to move close. Their united efforts helped them to put a permanent stop to Odo attacks. This early was referred to as Ogun Owuro.

Ekiti Approves N1.4b for Ero Dam

The Ekiti State government has approved a N1.375 billion contract for the Turn-Around Maintenance (TAM) of the Ero Dam, Phase 1.

MY RELATIONSHIP WITH FAYOSE CORDIAL ---------------------- EWI

The Ewi of Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, has said that the relationship between him and the former Ekiti State governor and 2014 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Peter Ayodele Fayose, is cordial and perfect.

The Ewi, who stated this when the former governor paid him homage at his palace last Friday, said neither the Ewi nor Ado was against Fayose.

According to a press statement issued by Fayose’s spokesman, Idowu Adelusi, and made available to the press in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Oba Adejugbe said he doesn’t think or talk about the past, stressing that the past has gone with inadequacies.

However, the monarch enjoined all the parties’ candidates to conduct peaceful campaign, saying all eyes were focused on Ekiti.

He added: “We don’t want fight, violence and killing in Ekiti State, what we want is peace and progress. All eyes are on us whether we are going to kill ourselves.”

Quoting from I Corinthians 13 Vs 1-9, the Ewi implored Ekiti people to love one another, shun violence and killing, stressing that the state can move forward if there is peace.

Earlier, Fayose, who was well received by the Ewi and the chiefs, told the monarch that he had not come as a candidate but rather to pay homage to the Kabiyesi, adding that he would still come back to present himself as candidate during which he would ask for royal blessing.

He praised the Ewi for being magnanimous at forgiving him his wrong doings of the past, saying he was now “a better Fayose,” more responsible, mature and responsive, promising never to allow anybody to stand between him and the Ewi.

The PDP candidate said, “I urge you Kabiyesi to forgive and forget the past so that tomorrow can come. I will accord you the desired respect and recognition if you offer me another chance. It is my detractors that stood between me and your royal majesty.”

MONARCH DENIES EXONERATING FAYOSE ON DARAMOLA’S MURDER

The Onijan of Ijan in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Samuel Oyewole Fadahunsi, has denied exonerating former Governor Ayo Fayose of complicity in the murder of an illustrious son of the town, Ayodeji Daramola.

The event is billed to hold at the state capital, Ado-Ekiti.
In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Mrs Bolanle Olatunde-Bruce, LP said the state chairman, Mr Akin Omole would be the chief host.
“The event which starts at 9am and promises to be grand shall have in attendance dignitaries from all over the country including the National Chairman of Labour Party, Mr Dan Nwanyanwu, members of the national working committee of the party, chieftains of the party in the South West; including Governor Rahman Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Ondo State House of Assembly members, Commissioners and Special Advisers, Afenifere chieftains as well as other stakeholders,” she noted.
