The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ekiti
State has asked its members to shun postings to the 19 newly created
Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The directive was as a result of unresolved labour issues between
NULGE and the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration in the state.
If unresolved on time, the NULGE directive could frustrate the take
off of the new LCDAs as political appointees in the councils would not
be able to function without administrative and other support workers to
be provided by NULGE.
Fayemi had on Wednesday signed the law for the creation of the new LCDAs following passage by the state House of Assembly.
NULGE State President, Comrade Bunmi Ajimoko, said the local
government workers’ body took the action in the best interest of the
workers and the state.
Ajimoko said: “We are not opposed to the creation of new local
governments or LCDAs, but certain issues must be resolved and clarified.
“The creation of new councils will, no doubt, mean more expenses on
the part of the government. However, there are issues that the state
government is yet to resolve with us. They border on welfare and
condition of service.
“We recently cried out over the issues such as CONMESS, CONHESS
among others. The state government has not resolved them and our members
are still denied these benefits and you want them to go and be using
their hands to make ways in the forest. We told our members not to go to
these new councils until all outstanding issues are resolved,” Ajimoko
said.
This is as the threeweek ultimatum issued by NULGE to resolve the
outstanding issues between them and the state government expires
tomorrow
