Ekiti State government has directed authorities of Benin Electricity
Distribution Company to restore power to the state without further
delay.
The Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, gave the
marching order on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti while holding an emergency
meeting with officials of BEDC. At the meeting, Anisulowo said his
office had been inundated with sad complaints by artisans, resort centre
operators as well as owners of viewing centres among several others of
the devastating effects of power-cut on their businesses.
He said authorities of BEDC had refused to supply electricity to
Ado-Ekiti as well as other towns and villages in Ekiti State since
Monday this week. But reacting, a top official of BEDC who reacted on
behalf of the company confirmed the power-cut but absolved the firm of
deliberately causing untold hardship on residents.
He explained that the fault that brought about the five-day
power-cut was as a result of damage done to the Oshogbo transmission
station. He promised that power would be restored as soon as on-going
corrective measures being carried out were concluded.
