EKITI AGOG AS LP STAGE MEGA RALLY

Tuesday, April 29, will remain evergreen in the memories of the people of Ekiti State. It was the day the Labour Party, led by ints National Leader and Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko and its National Chairman, Barrister Dan Iwuanyanwu as well as the state chairman, Barrister Akin Omole led other party faithful to a mega rally, where its state flagbearer, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB), was presented to the electorate.

The governorship election in Ekiti State has been fixed for Saturday, June 21 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all the governorship gladiators have been traversing the
length and breadth of the state reputed to be Fountain of Knowledge, canvassing for votes.

As early as 8am that day, the famous Ajitadidun playground around Adebayo Area of Ado-Ekiti was filled to capacity as party chieftains, supporters, well wishers, youths, social and political, social organisations as well as students, thronged the venue in different uniforms with the inscription: “MOB 4 Gov.” in solidarity with the LP candidate, whon they variously described as, “humane, humble and a reliable team leader.”

Commercial activities were temporarily paralysed in Ado – Ekiti as people thronged the Ekiti State capital to welcome and catch a glimpse of the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, and his entourage who came to join the (LP) in presenting their flagbearer, Hon Michael Opeyemi Bamidele at the mega rally.

On their way to the venue, they visited the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe who prayed for them in his palace and charged them to be focused on what they are doing.

The monarch also appealed to all political gladiators to give peace a chance, saying, the state is “becoming tensed up by the day with the way your followers had been attacking one another”.

The traditional ruler expressed displeasure at the level of tension in the polity, saying politics among people of the same family should not lead to bloodshed.“I think Ekiti State may not be rich, but we have human resources. But I think our politicians should not see this as a do-or-die affair”, he counseled.

Applauding Bamidele’s virtues, particularly his civil approach to politics, the monarch added, “I pray that Hon Opeyemi Bamidele doesn’t regret his action to serve the people of this State”.

They thereafter, went to the rally ground where Bamidele told the mammoth crowd that had waited for him that he was passionate about Ekiti development, saying that was why he is running for the election.

The candidate said if elected, he would govern Ekiti State with the Spirit of God and not put the state into debt, promising that his administration would have human face if elected governor on June 21. He said, haven come from a humble background, he was in a better position to know where the shoe pinches the masses, just as he reiterated that he had garnered enough experience in private and public sectors to lead the state well.

“I thank God that from a humble beginning, God has raised me to sit among princes and princesses and I know how to handle issues to make life more abundant for the masses. The state lacks potable water, there is nowhere in the state where people have 24 hours access to water. Our state is agrarian and we will mechanise agriculture and re-position education in our state,” he said.

Governor Mimiko, in his speech urged the people to vote for Bamidele because he is a man that can be trusted, saying he is a well experienced as a lawyer, law – maker and someone who has been in Executive arm of government in Lagos State for over a decade.

Bamidele pledged that he would use his salary as the Chief Executive of the State to cater for the orphans and the less privileged children, remiding that “I have not been taking salary as a member of House of Representatives in the last three years.

He added that “My salary is being used to empower the poor and to take care of those who are in need and I am very passionate about Ekiti and I am committed to rescue my people from sufferings”.

Bamidele regretted that the preceding administrations in Ekiti have disappointed the people, saying “I am in Ekiti to bring a new lease of life to liberate the people because as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Lagos State, I built 23 youth Development centres across the State and I also completed the Teslim Balogun Stadium that had been abandoned for long among other landmark achievements I recorded under former Governor Bola Tinubu and the incumbent Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola”.

In his speech, the National Leader of the party, Dr. Mimiko pointed out that, the difference between a LP-led government could be seen in the access people have to public utilities.”We have a university in Ondo State, others build universities in Ekiti and Lagos for example, but the difference is in the quality and access by the people to the facility. In Ondo, students in our university pay N25, 000, while in Ekiti they pay over N100,000 and in Lagos they pay over N250,000. How many people can send their children to such schools?

“We are coming to make a difference in Ekiti State and I don’t support a loser or somebody that will put me to shame. So, I call on Ekiti people to vote for Bamidele in the coming election,” Mimiko urged.

The Ondo State Governor also described the candidate of the LP, as God’s anointed for the June 21 Governorship election in Ekiti State, just as he described his party as the only party that can rescue the less privileged in Ekiti from the claws of poverty and hard biting economic problems being faced by the populace.

Mimiko therefore, appealed to the people to vote for Bamidele, describing Labour Party as “a party that is running a distinctive and less privileged-based government in the entire South-West zone” just as he declared that LP would run a distinct government that would place priority on how to make the poverty-stricken populace, relevant.

In his speech, National Chairman of the party, Barrister Dan Iwuanyanwu urged the people of the state including the Igbo to cast their votes for the LP candidate, saying, “with his antecedents, we are convinced that, Daniel will be in judgement from June 21 this year after the election.”His prophesy:

“Let me assure you that Bamidele’s victory in the June 21 governorship election has been signed, sealed and delivered by the almighty God.” The Chairman, State Chapter of the LP, Akin Omole urged the Ekiti people to vote his candidate, Bamidele, assuring that, “his government will transform the state beyong imagination because of his executive and legislative experiences.”The indelible impression in the mind of the people in attendance was that Ekiti has got a true Ambassador in the National Assembly who can make an effective governor.
