Ekiti students in tertiary institutions across the country have given
the state government a seven-day ultimatum to pay their outstanding
bursaries and scholarships allowance amounting to over N750 million.
The students, under the aegis of Federation of Ekiti State Students
Union, FESSU said failure of the government to pay within the stipulated
time would compel them to embark on mother of all protests across the
state.
FESSU National President, Comrade Oluwayomi Abegunde, who lamented
that the students had not been given the dues in the last three years,
also urged Governor Kayode Fayemi to effect immediate reduction of the
tuition fee payable by the students of Ekiti State University and the
College of Education, Ikere Ekiti.
The students said: “The governor promised at his inaugural speech
that students of that school will not pay more than N50,000, but today,
students pay as much as N115,000 in EKSU”
