Presenting the report, a member of the Committee representing Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency 11, Ayodeji Odu , justified the increase based on the consideration of a petition submitted by the people Kajola/Oreniwa in Ikole local government area.
He called on the Assembly to ensure that all necessary document were compiled and forwarded to the National Assembly for the councils to be listed in the constitution.
The Majority Leader of the House, Churchill Adedipe, who moved the motion for the approval of the report and the result of the referendum said people’s participation in the referendum had shown they were in full support of the exercise.
Adedipe also moved that the councils should be addressed as local councils Development Areas pending the final approval by the National Assembly.
Reacting, the Special Adviser on Legislative and Allied Matters to Governor Kayode Fayemi, Chief Dapo Karounwi, said the approval was the final lap of an exercise started last year.
Praising the Assembly for responding to the call, he thanked the Ekiti people for giving their support to the exercise.
The number increased by one from 18 based on the results of referendum submitted on Monday by the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission.
