Ekiti State Governor-elect, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has advised the All
Progressives Congress to stop looking for scapegoats to blame for its
failure. He said that no amount of name calling and campaign of calumny
would deter him from championing the cause of the down-trodden and that
of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Fayose spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, in a press release on Sunday, while reacting to a statement credited to the Oyo State chapter of the APC warning him to stay away from the state. The Oyo APC had criticised Fayose for the sensitisation rally held in Ibadan last Thursday by the PDP during which he was among the lead speakers. The statement wondered when the APC became the agency that was monitoring how Nigerians would move within the country and where they could go at any point in time.
It said, “The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees freedom of association and movement among many freedoms enshrined in it. It is in exercise of the freedom that people came together to form the PDP and which people also freely joined. So, that His Excellency Ayo Fayose and others are members of the PDP, I don’t know how that has injured the APC. Also, it is in the exercise of the freedom of movement that PDP members and leaders converged on the PDP secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State to hold a sensitisation rally and necessary, legally-mandated security agencies performed their duties that led to the success of the event. No doubt the APC has become jittery not only in Oyo State, the South-West geo-political zone, but in the nation at large. The people have seen their deceit and are determined to shove them aside and they have done that in Ekiti State.
“The APC felt disappointed that PDP leaders in Oyo State, who they thought would never see eyeball to eyeball, came together and are ready to work as a united front to chase them out of Agodi Government House next year. The day of judgment and reckoning for the APC is coming one by one. Soon, the APC will meet its waterloo in Osun State and in other parts of Nigeria come 2015 general elections. Let them wake up to that reality and the reality that there is no way they can cage Fayose or any PDP leader,” the statement added.
