The people of Ikoro-Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti
State have faulted the newly created 18 local council development areas.
The people are aggrieved that the community, which they claimed is
the second largest in the local government, was not considered in the
creation of the LCDA.
The community stated this in a protest letter to the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
The letter was signed by the National Vice-President of Ikoro
Progressive Union, G.A. Olowofila, and a community leader, Kester
Olaifa.
“Ikoro-Ekiti is the second town after Ijero in terms of population.
“Besides, it has one-third of the landmass of the entire local government area,” the protesters said.
The community, which noted with regret that smaller towns within the
local government were given two LCDAs in the new arrangement, therefore
demanded a separate Eso-Obama Local Council Development Authority.
Another community in Ekiti State, Erinmope-Ekiti, had earlier
faulted the siting of the council’s headquarters of the proposed Ero
Local Government Development Areas in Igogo-Ekiti.
The people of the community protested that Igogo was lower in
hierarchy in comparison with Erinmope, which, they claimed, had a
first-class traditional ruler, Oba James Aina.
The people of Osi in Ido/Osi Local Government had also protested
placing them under Ifaki-Ekiti, as the headquarters of Osi/ Isokan.
It will be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party had gone to
the Ekiti High Court to stop Fayemi from creating the new LCDAs from the
existing 16 local gov ernment areas.
In the suit number HAD/75/2014 filed at the Ado Ekiti Judicial
Division on July 1, 2014, the party described the plan as “illegal and
unconstitutional” and “a flagrant violation of the provisions of the
1999 constitution.”
