The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Monday that the outcome of
Ekiti Governorship election has not only increased the number of
governors elected on its platform, but has also presented another
workable formula for the party to win subsequent elections in the
country fair and square.
Olisa Metuh, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, at a press
conference held at the party’s National Secretariat, put together to
explain the reasons why the party won landslide at the poll, said, the
methodology adopted by the party for the election would subsequently be
adopted for other elections without wavering, with a view to achieving
positive result.
The party also faulted the All Progressive Congress (APC) for
kicking against the deployment of security personnel to Ekiti State for
the conduct of the election, saying the APC only complained when outcome
of elections did not favour them.
In his explanations on the winning formula, Metuh noted that four
major principles were adopted by the PDP in prosecuting the Ekiti
election, and that they actually worked like magic.
He said the party has a credible and popular candidate who was
acceptable to the voting populace; the party achieved a major plus by
allowing credible party primary as against imposition of candidates, the
party was free from unnecessary interference by the Presidency; and the
popular stance of the National Chairman that the right thing must be
done.
Commenting on the allegations by APC that the election was
militarised for the benefit of PDP, the PDP spokesman faulted the claim
by the opposition parties, insisting that APC only supports a policy
when the outcome benefit it, while condemning such when the outcome is
not palatable.
He noted that the APC did not complain when military men were
deployed to provide adequate, safe and sound atmosphere for the
Governorship election in Edo State, which was eventually won by Adams
Oshiomhole of the opposition party, but only cry foul when such
methodology adopted in Ekiti saw to the emergence of a PDP candidate as
the winner of the election.
