Minister of state for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has said that the
decision of the federal Government to deploy soldiers in Ekiti state
during the June 21 governorship election was responsible for huge turn
out of voters during the election.
Adeyeye, who stated this against the backdrop of protests against
deployment of soldiers by the opposition All Progressives Congress(APC)
said that it was ridiculous for any party to head to the courts to
contest the constitutional powers of the President.
The Minister, who spoke at a reception in his honors by the Egbe
Omoluabi, a Pan-Yoruba socio-political Organisation, headed by former
Ogun state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, said that the Federal
Government should ignore any protest against the deployment of soldiers
to ensure peace in Osun state.
“Contrary to claims by the opposition, the decision of the
government to deploy soldiers ensured a huge turn out of voters in Ekiti
election because people were assured of their safety. The soldiers did
not interfere with the election process in any way.,” the Minister said.
He insisted that the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) was peopled by
the Omoluabi in Yoruba land, adding that the party was on the path to
flushing the APC from the South West.
“In Ekiti, we took a strategic decision that led to a win, win
situation. Today we have a governor-elect and I am here as Minister. We
will continue to pray for our Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose to succeed
beyond the expectations of the people,” he said.
The Minister thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for finding him
worthy for the appointment adding that he needed the prayers of all to
succeed in his assignment.
He also stated that his appointment was divinely ordered, adding
that seven years ago, former President Olusegun Obasanjo had ordered his
name replaced on the Ministerial list for no reason at all.
“One thing I want to say is that my appointment is divine. Seven
years ago, I was nominated as Minister, a day before I would appear in
the senate, former President Olusegun Obasanjo ordered my name
withdrawn. My name was withdrawn on July 9 and as Hod would have it I
was sworn in by Oresident Goodluck Jonathan on July 9. 2014, exactly
seven years after. I don’t know how God did it,” he said.
Those at the reception included former governor Daniel, former
Speaker of the Jouse of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole, Senator
Gnbemi Saraki, former Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ladoke
Akintola University of Technology(LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Dr. muyiwa
Oladimeji, Senator Ayo Arise, governorship aspirant in Ogun state, Mr.
Shona Kawoniss, founding member of TELL Magazine, Mr. dare Babarinsa
among others.
